Now it’s your turn →In Jurassic Park, a group of paleontologists and experts are invited to an exclusive sneak peek of a dinosaur theme park. Through modern technology, dinosaurs have been resurrected. But when security measures fail, the dinosaurs are set free…and the humans must survive the very park they created.
We live inside man-made structures, protected by walls we trust. Over time, we have created systems to maximize our comfort. Many of us travel between locations in climate-controlled spaces. And we feel protected through these shelters, confident in the safety produced through our ingenuity.
And yet, there is a natural world beyond this construct, one filled with predators and prey, night and day, hot and cold. We no longer fear the dark because we have mastered light. We rarely pause to experience the world as it truly is. And the rules that govern it are very much at play in our own manufactured reality.
Is the natural world under our control or are we walling ourselves off from predator/prey relationships that will emerge in other ways? Does life find a way?
The reality is that we are gifted with the tremendous ability to care for and respect the non-human creatures that live beyond our periphery. Respect is the key. It is our own hubris that makes us forget that thought and care must go into the relationship between human and animal.
There is a clear distinction between us. When we respect those boundaries, we can be true stewards—honoring nature while keeping a necessary distance.
Whether we are aware or not, the reality we create mirrors the animal kingdom.
When we attempt to bend the natural order to our will, we do not escape its laws…we invite them back upon us.
Only humility stands between stewardship and self-destruction.
