You’ve read the reflection. Now see how this story moved others—and add your own feeling.
Now it’s your turn →Will I measure up to the task?
Can I be as good as the person before me?
Expectations for a role can be high.
Hopes for a bright future are often hinged on the leader, the hero, the great savior of mankind.
In Kung Fu Panda, Po is thrust into a situation where he is believed to be the great Dragon Warrior.
However, Po does not meet the expectations of this role, which feels greater than life itself.
But it is what makes him unique, his creativity and his approach, that sets him apart from the rest.
And that is what helps him become the leader that is needed.
When you’re placed into a position of leadership in an organization or at home, and the expectations others have for that role feel overwhelming, take a minute.
Reflect on what makes you unique.
Your creativity.
Your approach to solving problems.
Comparisons are normal. We do that all the time.
But it’s important to also put yourself in the previous leader’s shoes and understand that they may have felt the same way you do.
And the expectation for what a leader is may have been redefined when they brought their own unique perspective to the role.
Our perspective is unique, and how we solve problems is what got us to where we are in the first place.
Embracing that side of ourselves and leaning into it is exactly what we need to achieve the goals in front of us.
The only thing holding us back is the fear that we will not measure up to a scale that was set long before we arrived.
Maybe what makes us different is what makes us ready.
