2001: A Space Odyssey | What will we do with the next leap?

In 2001: A Space Odyssey, a monolith appears at the dawn of human evolution. Millions of years later, another monolith is discovered buried on the Moon. When it is exposed to sunlight, it sends a signal toward Jupiter. A crew embarks on a mission to Jupiter to discover its destination, aided by HAL, an advanced computer with artificial-intelligence-like capabilities.

We see critical choices here at the dawn of our next step in evolution. At each leap, new technology is present. Fashioned into a weapon, it can mean the destruction of others. Harnessed as a tool, it can mean our advancement.

Each generation is faced with a potential leap for our species, and heralding that leap is the advent of new technology. We have a choice: use it to grow or use it to destroy. That is up to us.
